Just browsing the IBM intranet you come across the most strange things like an initiative for Sustainable water supplies for human consumption and a conference in Amsterdam. And I just thought, hmm curious. I used to something with water in TheHague .
Do they still exists? They must have a web site. So I went out to look for IRC and guess what. One of the first hits on my search was this Cor Dietvorst site. (you should make it the offical site)
Glad to see that your looking good and as it seems are having fun. I went through the pictures of the event and I could remember some faces and I even saw myself while you were reading the real stuff. Funny. I even had hair.
Say hello to all . Keep up the good work. Bye

Dear Cor,
It is a pleasure and an honour writing some words to celebrate your 25th years at IRC.
25 years: a strong commitment, a love story.
During my two years at IRC, you have been a guide and a friend.
You have always shared your huge knowledge and strong experience without limit; you are a generous and a wise man with this lovely humor; young professional at IRC should feel privileged to discuss with you in order to understand IRC and its impact on the life of human being suffering from the lack of basic services.

More than professional work, I will always remember our discussion regarding rugby; your kiwi background just let you understand this beastly game played by gentlemen; To conclude, thinking of Cor means remembering our great table tennis games, it was just great and relaxing.
I hope you are still practising to avoid strong disillusion when I will travel to Delft :.)
Wishing you all the best to you and your family,
Laurent

Thank you everyone who helped organise and joined in my 25th anniversary celebration yesterday.

Now I truly believe that wishes can come true.
Some completely like belly dancing.
Some partly like the calendar (I understood that the original idea was to have an IRC “bottoms” calendar, pity).
Some not at all like having Victoria Koblenko as INCO Section Head.

The last wish I feel has misinterpreted by most people except me. I see Ms Koblenko as a new breed of manager – the feel-good facilitator. Just looking at her picture makes one feel good, so imagine what the effect would be to have her here in person.

This fits in with the new organizational form IRC requires to accommodate a growth scenario. Notice that I have replaced “structure” with “form”. We do not require a fixed structure other than groups of self-regulating teams which form spontaneously, grow organically and dissolve, mutate, split or merge when change is required. Motivation and inspiration is provided by feel-good facilitators. There is no need for a director or supervisory board because decision-making is truly participatory, completely open and transparent. Guidance is provided by a team of developmental biologists. Control freaks and micro-managers will first need to follow a “re-humanising” or “de-programming” learning trajectory.

Thinking of Cor immediately raised the questions 'where to start?' and 'what is the essence?'

Two words come to mind: respect and gratitude.

Respect for his relentless devotion to the cause he believes in. For his dedication to making Source the number one newsletter in the W&S sector. For his unstoppable appetite to always find a better news item, which often lead to delays in sending the newsletter out, at which time I had to chase him again (which was a hopeless effort, since as Ingeborg mentioned, he followed his own agenda). Respect for his loyalty to work overtime to get the newsletter out, despite my nagging and remarks to see a barber. Respect for his integrity and for the silent force that he brought into the office, upon which I knew I could always rely in times of need.

Gratitude for having the opportunity to work with him. For his lovely dry humor. For his flexibility and loyalty.

Respect and gratitude for being the authentic person he is.

When wishes come true

Thank you everyone who helped organise and joined in my 25th anniversary celebration yesterday, 17 April.

This fits in with the new organizational form IRC needs to accommodate the predicted growth scenario. Notice that I have replaced “structure” with “form”. IRC does not require a fixed structure other than groups of self-regulating teams which form spontaneously, grow organically and dissolve, mutate, split or merge when change is required. Motivation and inspiration is provided by feel-good facilitators. There is no need for a director or supervisory board because decision-making is truly participatory, completely open and transparent. Guidance is provided by a team of developmental biologists. Of course, control freaks and micro-managers will first need to follow a “re-humanising” or “de-programming” learning trajectory.

del.ic.ious; matje; humour; soft (voice); sharp; allergic to authority; great colleague; great beer partner; flexible in planning; the MIND of IRC; irony; my view; the past; the future...

Hi Cor,

Having joined IRC on the same fateful day as you 25+ years ago, I feel very humbled but mostly because you beat me at ping pong today. You even joined facebook before me. Wanna play scrabble on facebook?

Cor, Lia, Shobha, Henk, Jan Jaap, Corine, Carmen, Erik, Ellen, Nigel, Diane, Marijke, Maarten, Ingeborg, Gina, Bettie. Information professionals, students, conscientious objectors, volunteers. Do you still remember the two or three who’s name I forgot. IRC library and documentation unit has been (wo)manned by all kinds of people. Cor has been the prop and stay of the team for all these 25 years. Congratulations and thanks for the 20 odd years of being the best of colleagues.

Scheveningen, in the - was it the basement? One pingpong table, 5 players: Rob Winkel, Michel, Nigel, myself sometimes and you.

Poor, poor Nigel - he was your team mate. Every time he missed a ball, he would apologise and say, "Sorry", eyes downcast. You just looked at him. If looks could kill... To say you were dedicated to playing table tennis would be an understatement. You were obsessed. If you didn't win, you would be in a bad mood all day. Who would have thought...

I haven't had the pleasure of playing against you for a long time, and I'm not even sure whether you play daily still. But I'm sure you've further improved your skills. And you were so good back then even!

Cor, congratulations with 25 years IRC!
